Nyiragongo Volcano, the World's largest lava lake

Mount Nyiragongo is a stratovolcano culminating at 3,470 m absl, located in Goma ( Democratic Repulic of Congo) in the Western branch of the East African Rift. Five months after its last eruption of January 17, 2002, Nyiragongo developed a permanent lava lake characterized by a continuous degassing that provides extraordinary spectacle (especially at night) that surprised even the experts, and remains among the most active volcanoes on earth and. Nyiragongo still one of the most dangerous volcanoes as its threatens the million of inhabitants of Goma City (DR Congo) and those of Goma's twin City of Gisenyi in Rwanda. The short video we present was made on November 28-29, 2013 and shoes the current activity of the world's largest lava lake. 4. Very impressive indeed. A churning, roiling lake of molten rock is a rare spectacle

I think Nyiragongo is so dangerous because despite being a steep sided volcano, a stratovolcano, it has unusually fluid lava, usually typified by the volcano in question being shallow sided, or a shield volcano. And just to add to its' lethality, it lies very close to Lake Kivu, a large lake with CO2 and methane submerged near the bottom. Lake Kivu is near to Goma, so if Nyiragongo erupts, the lava will enter the lake and cause a cloud of poisonous gas to engulf the surrounding area.
