  10. And some folks still insist that science like this is a waste of time! Imagine "unlocking" the technology of chromatophores for use in our everyday life. Imagine simply opening up your smartphone to choose the color of such things as your house, your car, or even your clothes. The applications aren't limited to aesthetics either:

    Think of the myriad military applications of such a technology. Someday a soldier may be able to change his camouflage patterns at will--or automatically--so that the soldier always remains hidden in his or her surroundings. We're already working on such technologies for military vehicles like tanks and ships; I'm very excited to see what the next generation of scientists can come up with!
