part 4, Mike Powell and Carl Lewis World Record Long Jump

Sixth round and Bob Beamon footage. Mike Powell and Carl Lewis competed against each other in the long jump at the 1991 World Championships. Lewis had a winning streak of more than 60 meets over the past 10 years going into the meet. Both were are their best on this night which saw four of the seven longest jumps in history!

2. I remember watching this play out on television. By far the best long jump competition EVER and one of the best track and field competitions ever!!! 3 legal jumps of 29 feet or more and 1 slightly wind aided jump over 29 feet! Unbelievable!!! The long jump hasn't been the same since these 2 men retired.

8. I'm jumped 19"00 this year at a little meet, but I did it after winning the mile run. But I've never trained for anything, if I trained for long jump I wonder how far I'd jump, I didn't know how to do it or even if I was doing it until the day of btw I'm 15
9. Not true. The American record for 8 year olds is 14 feet 7 3/4 inches, set by Kendrick Law on July 28, 2012. The world record for 8 year olds might be even further. By the way, I think that reppinthatseattleblu was just making fun of the comments that other people were leaving here.

11. my buddy jumped 20 feet 8 inches in the 8th grade and never got further than that all throughout highschool
12. Me too! I always thought myself before that it would be impossible for a small guy like me to dunk the rim but wow. I was actually amazed by the program at the site: JumpHigher.info It gained me about 10" in my vert in less than 2months! Believe it or not dude!

14. It was a very late broadcast. I had heard earlier in the day that there was a new world record in the long jump but I purposely avoided hearing any more news about the event until I could watch it on T.V. I didn't know which athlete had set the record or what a memorable competition I was going to see that night. After the early rounds, I was convinced that Carl Lewis was the new record holder.
