  1. That's a rarity. God knows how many of that exact same coin still exist, but many such silver denarii of various types hover around 100 or fewer, and for many there are only 20 or fewer known examples. Heritage Auctions' sales history on their website goes back 15+ years and they have not had this same exact coin in that timespan. Heritage is a high end auction house which has sold numerous million+ dollar coins. They have sold other Caligula era silver denarii, but not a COS 4 (4th Councilship, which lasted for only the final 24 days of his life) with the same reverse, which read SPQR on the back (an abbreviation meaning The Roman People And Senate). It's definitely a rare coin and in nice shape, to boot. They were made of low grade silver and base metal. Many such coins have been pitted, worn, and scratched via the ravages of time. Amazing how anything with that amount of history made its way to a Las Vegas pawnshop in 2014. Anton Chigurgh would find that fascinating.
