  9. This is seriously cool, its like a time capsule.
I was also thinking it was placed in a hole in a tree (maybe by a nervous murderer), but would a hole heal up like that? The only holes I've seen in trees are in really old ones, and they're usually dirty black inside (decay etc). The only clue I can see is that the rust staining (pretty clear @00:52) is more above the gun. That suggests that there was once a gap which allowed the rust to run down and build up (meaning the gun was up-side down). Its hard to say without inspecting the grain and knowing where it was found, but my guess is that shell fire hit and split the trunk of a healthy tree and also hit some guy cleaning his pistol. When the debris came back down, the pistol got wedged in the tree.
Why would you clean a loaded gun unless you were on a battlefield and might have to use it at any moment, isn't that dangerous (if theres a round in the chamber, couldn't you push the shell onto the pin with the rod)? Guess the mystery is what makes it so interesting. If they made a TV program about this pistol I'd watch it. PBS get on it!
Edit: If an x-ray shows that there is a round in the barrel then I think it rules out it being put down on purpose, that cleaning rod is too much of a liability and you wouldn't risk knocking it?
  10. OK here's a lesson if you find rare shit like a dinosaur egg[which was sold on this shot show for $500] or a rare game cartridge like the Nintendo tournament cartridge which they wanted $80 for it then go to a true collector or buyer who is really interested.
