Red Trail Outdoors Shane Horsewood Biggest Buck at Western Illinois Trophy Outfitters

Team Leader Shane Horsewood and Team Member Justin Sager set out on an amazing adventure to go out of their element of the east coast and into the Midwest! With an archery buck tag in Shanes' pocket and Justin behind the camera they decided to head to Western Illinois Trophy Outfitters for a week long archery hunt. As soon as they arrive to camp the fun began despite the bad weather. Monday was the first morning hunt and the action began seeing 2 bucks chasing 2 does. With seeing deer throughout the day they knew it was just a matter of time until a shooter arrived within range. Tuesday they elected to move stands at about 0900 due to the wind. With some Everscent by Sigma Outdoors they felt very confident in any stand they were in. They were only settled in the new stand for a couple of hours when all of a sudden this STUD started walking along the creek. He proceeded to walk by well out of range and make a scrape. Shane immediately grabbed his grunt tube and threw a few short grunts at him to catch his attention. Shane got this buck to make a 180 degree turn and come right by them at 26 yards for the shot. The excitement and adrenaline was overwhelming after the shot! What they thought was a double lung shot and was going to be a quick tracking job turned out to be a liver shot and a little bit of lung. This buck ran and ran and ran but bleed great blood the entire way so everyone elected to keep pressing feeling confident on the shot. Coming up on the buck they spotted some breathing and movements while he was bedded down. Unsure on how this brute was still alive Shane and WITO owner Hunter Still decided to sneak in and stick him one more time for safe measure. Once that arrow struck Shane felt the pressure lift off his chest. Running up to it Shane was astonished on the character on this buck and was just in shock holding the biggest bodied and rack size buck to date! This 12 point buck green scored 145 1/4" with the tip to tip on the main beams at 3" and the inside spread just under 11"! The longest tine on this buck was 11 7/8"!
