Reviewing the Aldi 3D Printer! Cocoon Create

Best budget 3D Printer, or a Complete Waste of Money? Watch to find out! The cocoon create 3D Printer made waves in Australia last month as the first 3D Printer to be released by a supermarket chain - ALDI. At only $500 bucks it caught the attention of many, and sold out almost instantly. I like to think I had some part in that - as analysis indicated this machine was indeed a rebrand of the Wanhao Duplicator i3 V2, a proven 3D printer which is a great way of getting started on a budget. Big thanks to WinPlus for sending me up a Cocoon Create to evaluate and test out. All opinions expressed in this video are my own. 1. What print settings do you have this at? I just got a Monoprice maker select and I want to know your print speed, temps, and any other setting that you use. Thanks
  2. Well exclusivity deals will always kill a machine for me. I like something I can find easily and easily get replacement parts for if the original retailer ever discontinues it.
  3. so many regrets for missing this sale, i really should stop chucking out junk mail haha
  4. was this just an Australia thing, as i live in the uk.
  5. Did you ever try to print any ABS on this printer? I have a rebrand of the same machine and I'm weary to try it as I've heard ABS is a pain to print with, and I'm basically a complete noob to 3D printing. Advice would be much appreciated.
  6. Hello, i brought a cocoon create and it seems that my Y axis is around the wrong way, any ideas how to fix it?
  7. I have a BEETHFIRST little desktop printer, but it's really bad about clogging, not printing, and just being stupid... Should I sell it and try and get this?

**EDIT: I live in the States, is there any way to get one over here?
  8. Aldi? Haha awesome
  9. i just got a balco 3d printer as a present it came from dicksmith online and is approximately $399 its another wanhao i3 clone and so far its awesome.
  10. Should I buy one of these and sell my printrbot plus (wood), the main issues I have with then wooden printrbot plus is that the y axis is heavy because it's made of wood and it has an aluminium build plate so it can vibrate violently when trying to print something quickly. Also the weight makes it drop slightly when it's fully extended making bed levelling a nightmare.
  11. I just ordered a abet a8! DIY I can't wait to get it :)
  12. is the Malyan M150 i3 3D Printer from HobbyKing.com the same printer ?
  13. it easy to put together
  14. can you print straight off the computer using Cura and the usb cable or do i need to use the SD card? i can't get the printer to communicate with my computer. Also doing my second print and the smaller of the 2 fans isn't moving much... would really love some help im a total noob!
  15. Bloody brilliant upload. I was wondering about buying one of these to make parts for custom computers such as cable combs and dust covers.
  16. Available in the US from MonoPrice for $340! http://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=13860
  17. Hi Angus, My Balco arrived from Kogan, and it comes with the upgraded bearing kit including the thumb wheels on the hot bed and not the wing nuts.

One question, would you recommend fitting the micro swiss all metal hot end to this printer?
    https://store.micro-swiss.com/collections/wanhao-duplicator-i3-pluse/products/all-metal-hotend-with-slotted-cooling-block-for-wanhao-i3
  18. print from SD card, a reasonably big build volume for small footprint, heated bed, avilable local support, replacements and filamnet. holy wow they may have just isntantly monopolised the Australian 3D printer market, but with good stuff :O
  19. There's a bearing kit to fix the bearing/belt wearing problem form Cocoon create for $25.00AUD delivered. Ordered mine from Kogan as I have bent sent a discount code, total $430 inc delivery and freight insurance.
