It makes me depressed that we have all these brilliant, bright young people going off to fight in wars, for nothing more than geopolitical advancements. The only people that actually want to continue these wars are the Orwellian elitists in our government, and in the corporate positions of influence. It doesn't matter if we elect democrats or republicans, we just keep getting the same wars, the same conflicts, and continuously losing American lives that could've been saved. Love our troops, hate our government.
He said "Son, have you seen the world? Well, what would you say if I said that you could? Just carry this gun and you'll even get paid." I said "That sounds pretty good."
Black leather boots Spit-shined so bright They cut off my hair but it looked alright We marched and we sang We all became friends As we learned how to fight
A hero of war Yeah that's what I'll be And when I come home They'll be damn proud of me I'll carry this flag To the grave if I must 'Cause it's a flag that I love And a flag that I trust
I kicked in the door I yelled my commands The children, they cried But I got my man We took him away A bag over his face From his family and his friends
They took off his clothes They pissed in his hands I told them to stop But then I joined in We beat him with guns And batons not just once But again and again
A hero of war Yeah that's what I'll be And when I come home They'll be damn proud of me I'll carry this flag To the grave if I must 'Cause it's a flag that I love And a flag that I trust
She walked through bullets and haze I asked her to stop I begged her to stay But she pressed on So I lifted my gun And I fired away And the shells jumped through the smoke And into the sand That the blood now had soaked She collapsed with a flag in her hand A flag white as snow
A hero of war Is that what they see Just medals and scars So damn proud of me And I brought home that flag Now it gathers dust But it's a flag that I love It's the only flag I trust
He said, "Son, have you seen the world? Well what would you say, if I said that you could?"
some people say the song is about how terrible war is and what poor beings soldiers are some people say the song is about how terrible soldiers are I think the song just says "don't join the military"
Reminds me a bit of 'en livstid i krig'.
The human race is war like and we should keep embracing war
This song mixed with FFDP's Wrong Side of Heaven makes it even worse: you as a soldier go through horrible, inhuman events, and when you come home ( if you're lucky enough ), you get treated like shit by your OWN land, land that you "protected" from people who wouldn't be able to do anything against them. All that just for oil, minerals and territory, at the cost of thousands of lives.
I think its hillarious that Syria got bombed.
It's weird that, in most contexts, being a hired killer is a bad thing. But, when the victims are in the tens and thousands and consist almost entirely of civilians, the occupation becomes somehow heroic in some people's minds.
this song sends a powerful message
It doesn't matter whether humanity is in war or not.. we'll just find other ways to fuck up.. drugs, zoophilia, inbred, necrophilia, cannibalism, obesity, pedophilia, gene manipulation, yadda-yadda.. humanity has always been about taking control of evolution or whatever ya want to call it.. I want natural selection back :< at least there I die if I don't want to live anymore.. or live if I don't want to die.. or at the very least get rid of criminality - above mentioned..
just found this song and can't stop listening to it. We joined thinking we would be heroes, that we were defending our nation. But as friends died and the body count rose it became harder and harder to hold onto that ideal. Then one day something happens, something horrible that a person shouldn't ever have to do and you are looking down at a kid you just shot only to find out his rifle wasn't even loaded and your not sure if you were even saying the right commands in Arabic to make him stop. Now five years later you sit here realizing you drink just to go to sleep at night, your marriage is falling apart on the verge of divorce and you are so angry at everything and you have no idea how to even begin to fix things. You almost wish you were alone so that you could take that pistol next to you and end it but you don't because of your kids who would never understand and don't deserve that. So you struggle on with medication and counseling longing for comfort from a wife who has shut you out while you hide your tears from your children. We aren't bad people or at least that is what we keep telling ourselves to get through the day.
You were never in the military. Stop acting like you were. America has extremely strict rules of engagement. You cannot just shoot a running girl, if she doesnt look to be armed or a suicide bomber. Also, cases of abuse towards captive targets is extremely rare. You have no idea what you are talking about. I'll bet you don't know a single person who is fighting over there. If you want to see military success, look up battle of Ramadi 2006.
i fucking hate you people who say hur durr soldiers are satan or something equally stupid i've been to war its horrible but someone has to do it and it sure as hell isnt going to be you fucking pussy's
I wonder how many marines will come home this year. This song is for you boys, this isnt your war....
