ROBOT CUBESTORMER 3 vs RUBIK's CUBE - smashes new world record

Here at Guavo HQ we love technology... and it doesn't get better than a robot story to get us excited! Now meet the CUBESTORMER 3 robot which very impressively uses ARM-powered processor technology to be able to solve a Rubik's Cube in the fastest time known to mankind. This weekend at the Big Bang Fair in Birmingham, the UK's biggest single celebration of science & engineering for young people robot history was made. The 3rd model of the CUBESTORMER kicked Rubik's Cube ass and managed to achieve an incredible solving time of 3.253 SECONDS... It is now officially the fastest-ever time set by a robot for the completion of a Rubik's cube and the result of 18 months of effort by co-inventors David Gilday and Mike Dobson who worked on the project in their spare time. David Gilday is a principle engineer at ARM, the world's leading processor design company based in Cambridge, and co-inventor Mike Dobson, a security systems engineer for Securi-Plex. He said: "We knew CUBESTORMER 3 had the potential to beat the existing record but with the robot perfoming physical operations quicker than the human eye can see there's always an element of risk," The new robot uses an ARM-powered Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone to act as the brain of the robot and analyse the cube and instruct four robotic hands to do the hard work physical manipulation. The robot device is also built with colourful Lego bricks from the toy company's Technic range which gives it a kind of friendlier appearance, as opposed to something scary from one of the Terminator movie franchises in Hollywood. The world record was officially adjudicated and verified on the day at the NEC in Birmingham by Craig Glenday, Editor-in-chief of the annual Guinness World Records Book.
