Safety Test: Boeing 747-8 makes a splash | Lufthansa

For the new Boeing 747-8 freighter to be certified, it must go through an array of tests. The water safety test is one of the many requirements it has to fulfil. "We do the water spray test so we can tell whether or not – if an airplane is going through standing water – the water actually gets ingested into the engines because that would be bad", says 747-8 flight test manager Andy Hammer. 1. I already watched this video 1000,000,000 times
  2. Im flying to Europe for the first time in december, and with Lufthansa!, and booked my flight looking to be on board of this particular plane. Cant wait
  3. If they don't want water to get in ports then how does the plane fly through rain or does this just test the waterproofing
  4. Hi everyone

As an ex captain on the 747-8F, I can tell you for sure that the one depicted on this test was not a 747-8I(i.e. Intercontinental) , but a 747-8-F the one I was used to fly.and Lufthansa has never ordered any freighter version of the 747-8 , but only the passenger version with the long top 747-8I.
    Kind regards.
  5. Thanks Vanessa. : )
  6. Do you know how many cubic inches of h20 they suck at 9-10 hours flight?. Even the take off in rainy season are questionable now. Why ?
  7. Im The 491,121 Viewer :) NO ONE CARES
  8. Airbus has a way more critical and potential dangerous water ingestion test,100 Kn over a runway, or sometimes, a V1 speed, even for their A380. And the latest A350 XWB. This proves the aircraft can seriously be rugged against ingestions.
  9. BRUH... A380 fucking did that... Boeing fucking copiers...
  10. im the 469,461st viewer :D
  11. Don't click on my name.
  12. LOL
  13. Awesome....Nice landing too!
  14. Nice video..
  15. One more thing. While living in Seattle, I once had a conversation with a well to do lady from the Bellevue section who said if the product is not by Boeing she won't fly in it! The caption at the right explains why she said that: New Boeing 747-8 undergoes EXTREME TESTING. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it. Yes, I know this is a cargo plane but Boeing is equally meticulous with its entire brand!
  16. I once worked as a temp for Boeing at both Renton and BMS. It was the best working environment ever in my work experience. It was snowed in Seattle as I worked as a temp. And I knew I wasn't going to make to work on time. So I called Renton so telling them, and the response -- from an executive yet -- was get here when you get here. Now, how about that? Even the Boeing biggies are amenable to chat from those below. It was quite an experience. Too bad I'm not younger!
  17. If your flying RyanAir you are considered cargo...
  18. A very nice and usefull test, another proof that best solutions for the most complex problems came with the simplest methods. Now 30-40-50 knots is nowhere near the landing speed of 120-140 knots plus the aircraft is tilted backwards and its even harder for the water to be ingested. Im no aeronautical engineer, but i think that should be tested as well. Also in the first minutes i thought they would test the braking in the wet,of brakes and reverse thrust, wich also won't allow water to be ingested
  19. COOL
  20. Yes, the narrator promises I can feel confident and safe next time I fly on a 747-8. Of course I often ship myself in a crate on a freight flight to save money. So that makes good sense.
