Watch as a crew sets and detonates a 1,175-pound firework in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. It was the largest ever detonated in North America and possibly the heaviest anywhere in the world.

Dear USA today: look up the meaning of "detonate" and make some effort to use correct terminolgy. Fireworks are ignited.. here, the lifting charge of black powder (a propellant that can cause explosions) is ignited and then deflagrates (burns really fast) and propels the shell out of the tube. After a time delay, the bursting charge inside the shell is ignited, causing the shell to explode with all it's flaming contents.
The only detonations here would have been if they had some report shells in the burst as well.
Who cares, but I am so tired of media being incapable of using the correct terms when the choices are so few and the info is public domain.
