South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk breaks 400m world record

South Africa's Wayde van Niekerk has run the fastest single lap in history to win gold in the Olympic 400 metres. He ran an incredible 43.03 seconds, breaking Michael Johnson's 17-year-old world record. Here's CCTV's Celestine Karoney with more.

Comments

  1. takes 4 olympic women to get that time 😂😂 in the 4x100
  2. why didn't Wayde run the 200M also? Seems like a natural for the Johnson double.
  3. tf are there more dislikes than likes ?

  5. he's native tongue is Afrikaans,a language closely related to Dutch. He did all his talking on the track in a language and accent that people the world over,understood...deal with it!!!!!

  10. How can CCTV employ a person to be a commentator when she can't pronounce the basic of words. I understand that she has an accent. .... but it's the pronunciation. ....
Ridiculous. .... young people growing up listening to this drawl think it's okay......
    well it's not.
Oh and btw I am African. ....and I do have an accent....but we practice proper pronunciation in today's world.
English as a communicative language should be spoken correctly especially to a massive audience.

  12. Milestones for Human Physical Performance: 100/200 vs 400 meters
Same as for the Universe (stars, planets, comets) there are different types of milestones.
Neither the 100 nor the 200 meters alone stand for one of these milestones.
The 200 meters is part of the same limit as the 100 meters, although before Usain Bolt set the 200 meters record in 2007 the same man, Michaael Johnson, was the record holder for both thee 200 and 400 meters
In fact the 400 meters is the ONLY event in the Olympics that ALONE stands for one of the physical limits of Mankind: sustained maximum speed.

The complete list of the limits for Human Physical Performance.
The Olympics motto, "Citius, Altius, Fortius", is a hint.
Citius hints at maximum speed and maximum sustained speed.
