Steve Backley's 90.98m javelin throw world record set in London in 1990



Steve Backley of Great Britain threw a world record on July 20, 1990 with using the famous 'Nemeth' javelin that he borrowed from fellow competitor Jan Zelezny at the IAAF / Mobil London Grand Prix Parcelforce Games at Crystal Palace in London, England.   1. Find it funny how this world record was broken bij Seppo Raty, and that WR got deleted for the javelin type and in 1992 JZ broke the record and that one also got deleted xD

  3. Okej. Yeah the commentary is dutch, I said 92,46 because that's what the commentator says, but it can be 91,46 also, don't know if the commentator has valid information ;) I'm looking forward to more of these video's, they are great! =)
  4. At least somebody understands what they are saying :) The date of the commentary must have been early 1992 then, when Backley had the record (91,46m I think). The footage itself is when he threw 90.98m, the photo made it to the Life magazine as well. I had these on videotapes in the 90's, just had them recently digitized. More will follow.
  5. Funny, he says Backley is the world record Holder with 92,46m =P, think the commentary was done some time after these recordings. Where do you get all these eurosport footage from?
