Sydney Metro - Australia’s biggest public transport project

Services start on the AU$8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest, Stage 1 of Sydney Metro, in the first half of 2019. The new fully-automated metro railway will be extended from the North West, under Sydney Harbour, through new underground Sydney CBD stations and beyond to Bankstown by 2024. Sydney Metro will have 31 metro stations and more than 65km of new metro rail. Customer’s won’t need a timetable – they’ll just turn up and go. Trains will run every four minutes in the peak -15 an hour – on Sydney Metro Northwest. Sydney Metro will have ultimate capacity for a metro train every two minutes in each direction under the Sydney CBD. It includes Australian-first technology like platform screen doors, which keep people and objects like prams away from the tracks and allow trains to get in and out of stations much faster.
