The Biggest Problem with Mass Effect Andromeda's Dialogue

For the record, I don't think ALL dialogue is bad in this game (there are genuinely good ones), but that sense of people not taking what's happening seriously I feel permeates all throughout.

I dunno, ME3 tried to be a war movie and failed. I'm all for going 600 years away from anything ME3 did and not taking everything so goddamn seriously. The dialogue did have a lot of issues though.

Its like the writers for this game never read any good books... Their only exposure to literature is the forced one-liners and puns in Marvel movies. How much you want to bet their writers were 20 year old college interns who grew up inside a Starbucks lounge while browsing Facebook? I would love to ask them if they even know the names Asimov, Philip K Dick, Arthur C Clark, or Larry Niven. They probably don't know any of those names because they are "disgusting cisgender white men" and why would you bother reading their material?

It's sad that they couldn't even live up to the shitty trilogy.

People deal with stress in different ways. Make believe aside, logic dictates, that a pretty thorough psychological profiling must have went on during the candidate selection process and although I have zero idea how Peebee passed (hate her with a special kind of passion), I'm pretty certain most high ranking people who'd rather curl up in a corner and cry hysterically every time something goes sideways were all rejected.

Optimism and humor, even sarcasm is probably the best way to deal with stress, as opposed to be all doom and gloom about shit going wrong. I'd take sarcasm over sulking any day.

Ryder sr. is the best written character of the entire game, no argument there, but by the looks of it he was also the second oldest (human), and SAM, his brainchild being one of the most important elements of the entire endeavor, he was a lot more involved with the whole thing than anyone else. He created it to save his now dead wife for crying out loud.

Although his passing really should've affected his kids harder, and the voice acting generally sucks, I'll agree with that.

Honestly I've stayed away from Bioware ever since I had the extreme displeasure of coming in to contact with the turd that was Dragon age 2. So sad because I really loved DA 1 and Mass Effect 1 and 2 and even 3 minus the ending were fantastic. RIP Bioware.

your so right about "everyone fucking around" there is a reason why some early space pioneers from all nations were some of the most well trained and highly deccoreated military personell. they are utterly indoctrinated for a cause, and their training can just take over from their concious self sometimes. out of all the people inthe galaxy to send to another galaxy, they pick some awful people

damn that's a shame, dragon age and previous mass effect games had such great writing and facial animations but bioware dropped the ball with Andromeda, terrible lol idk I'll just rent the game from gamefly then maybe wait for it go on sale lol well I guess this game is by new bioware devs and not by the professionals that gave us dragon age and previous mass effect games so yeah.

I agree with you, there was so much potential that was wasted.
The only team characters I thought hit the spot where Nyx and Drahk.
Peebee was really annoying and childish and just unbelievable and badly written as where many scenes and dialogs in the game, Cora was the most boring and uniteresting character and Liam shoudn't have been a cop but a failed comedian in the milky way.
Another thing annoyed me where the sex scenes and just because they praised them in several pre release features and in the game if you play female Ryder you find out that there is only one sex scene which is also poorly done. I expected something along the witcher 3 levels of style from their praise but not that.... Also why can I flirt and fall in love with every character ?
In the movie night scene where you put your arm around your love interest, I had 3 of the crew sitting on the same spot with their bodyies clipping all the time because I flirted with all three of them ...

The most bodged character isn't even Ryder although she/he gets close to it because he/she should be the best written is still the evil antagonist "The Archon" he is so uninteresting and bad, one can not even know where to start.

I am also starting to dislkie the combat system the more I play. I mean you get lots and lots of points and can pick lots and lots of talents but you can only use 3? Sure you can switch templates, but this is bad for the game flow and you still can not combo detonators and primers as you like because of the reset when switching templates and in this game it is more important do detonate you own primers because you can't control your team mates anymore and they act like morons 80% of the time.

I'm playing it now. when Liam said "Cause I shot him in the face." I decided I was never going to interact with that character. I was beyond annoyed.

To be fair most of the shitty comments can be avoided by leaving Liam on your ship.

Great points, I agree with quite a lot, I haven't completed the game and despite some of the quirks and god awful cover system, I am liking it, but it is in no way as enthralling as the previous games in the series, Alec Ryder was greatly performed but that is not hard to imagine, Clancy Brown aka The Kurgan (Highlander) was the only big actor on the cast

what pisses me off is the mutiny...... how did all those weak minded people end up on the initiative? or liam freaking out on his trust mission or whatever....sloane kelly? yea never gonna save her. y would u set a fire in the place taht grows ur food and oxygem? wtf? u would all die, including ur dumass frozen family they won't stop bitching about.

if they can't understand "we dont' have enough water and food for more people, sorry they have to stay frozen" i would just put a bullet in them and end their suffering.... stupid

I totally agree with all of this. I remember hearing early on that the Andromeda team was overall a younger team than what was in the past, but that doesn't mean that younger people are necessarily less mature and goofy than older people. Going into unknown planets is a big freaking deal, but no one on Ryder's team seems to realize that.
