The milky eagle owl, also known as Verreaux's eagle-owl, is as powerful as it is beautiful. Found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, it is the continent’s largest owl. With wingspans that can stretch up to five feet in length, its size and power make it one of only a few African birds that can hunt a porcupine successfully. While it is a dominant bird, the combined effects of habitat loss, hunting, drought and disease have drastically reduced its population. 13. These GBS features are well done and informative. However, if you're going to bill this piece as "Africa's Largest Owl" it would be helpful to have some perspective. The narrator tells us the female is "a third bigger" than the male, but a third bigger than what? We don't get any statistics or (perhaps even more helpful) the owl next to something of a familiar certain size (a graphic of a ruler, a mouse or a Coke can).
    Of course you can look it up, which might be part of the point of the shorts, to get people to dig deeper. For what it's worth, I did. The owls measure 26 inches in total length, which is 5.38 Coke cans high.)
