The Roman Empire. Or Republic. Or...Which Was It?: Crash Course World History #10

In which John Green explores exactly when Rome went from being the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire. Here's a hint: it had something to do with Julius Caesar, but maybe less than you think. Find out how Caesar came to rule the empire, what led to him getting stabbed 23 times on the floor of the senate, and what happened in the scramble for power after his assassination. John covers Rome's transition from city-state to dominant force in the Mediterranean in less than 12 minutes. Well, Rome's expansion took hundreds of years, he just explains it in under 12 minutes. The senate, the people, Rome, the caesarian section, the Julian calendar and our old friend Pompey all make appearances, but NOT the Caesar Salad, as Julius had nothing to do with it. 9. Also, the caesarian section was named after the roman word "To cut", not Julius Caesar, and he was almost definately born via natural birth, because the mother always died in C section back then and Caesar's mother was alive and well when he was in old age.
    But he was cool.
  10. Contrary to belief, Caesar was not born from a Caesarian section. Caesar was born in 100 BC, and his mother, Aurelia Cotta, died in 54 BC. Caesarian sections in Ancient Rome would almost certainly result in 100% fatality. The more likely reason for the term Caesarian section likely can be traced back to one of his ancestors.
  11. I remember Pompey as a traitor and a friend of the rebel alliance.

  16. I dont get the netflix joke... what happened?
  17. This is wrong in a couple of thing, Rome never divided power, it was all in the "populus" of SPQR every law , trial and decision was ran through the people, how people voted depended of how the rotator chose to order them
  18. wish i had sex with Cleopatra
