The top 10 largest terrestrial animals on Earth were all dinosaurs, and a new analysis of dinosaur fossils reveals the biggest of the big. The new study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, determined that the most gargantuan dinosaurs were all herbivores. “Sauropod dinosaurs -- long-necked plant eaters -- include the largest land animals that have ever existed,” lead author Kenneth Lacovara of Drexel University told Discovery News. “Multiple studies have shown that the body weight of a four-legged animal corresponds closely with measurements taken from its humerus (upper arm bone) and femur (thigh bone),” Lacovara said. 1.
