Top 10 Largest Snakes in the World - TOP 10 CLIPZ

10 Largest Snakes in the World Number 10: Papuan Python The Papuan python can grow to more than 15 ft in length, but doesn’t get very heavy. A 15 ft Papuan python would be expected to reach no more than 50 lbs. They are very rare snakes. If you wanted to purchase a Papuan python it would be difficult to find one and expensive. Number 9: Dark Spotted Anaconda A dark spotted anaconda is an 80 lb, 4ft long non-venomous snake found in South America. It was identified in the 1920s and the 1st specimen was gifted to the Philadelphia Zoo. They can have litters up to 25, and at birth the young are approximately 20in in length. Number 8: Boa Constrictor Female boa constrictors average almost 10 ft in length while males average 5-7 ft. Boas are very popular in the exotic pet industry because they are not as aggressive as other species of large snakes and they can become quite tame. Number 7: Yellow Anaconda The yellow anaconda averages 10-14 ft in length and 75 lbs. They have litters of 20-50, with the young becoming independent immediately after birth. The life span in the wild is 15-20 years and in captivity it is a little longer, about 25 years. Number 6: Scrub Python The scrub python is the largest snake in Australia and the 6th largest in the world today. A scrub python will reach lengths of 13-25 ft, with anything over 16 ft considered very uncommon. Number 5: Indian Python The Indian python is a popular pet snake. They can grow to over 9 ft in length. The Indian python’s diet consists of small mammals and like the boa, the python is a constrictor. It constricts its prey before swallowing it whole. Rabbits and birds are a diet staple of an Indian python. Number 4: African Rock Python The African rock python is a highly aggressive snake and is the 4th largest snake in the world. It can surpass 250 lbs. This species is sought after by collectors but unfortunately most of the collectors are inexperienced and when the snake becomes too much to handle they release them into the wild. The state of Florida is experiencing major problems due to these snakes increasing in population and roaming inland, becoming a threat to the native animals and even backyard pets. Number 3: Burmese Python The Burmese python is less aggressive than the African rock python, but like the African rock python it is considered an invasive species in Florida, they are threatening the native bird and coyote population. On average the Burmese python reaches approximately 70-85 lbs. Number 2: Reticulated Python There are specimens of reticulated pythons that have measured over 25 ft, but on average they grow 19.7-22 ft. Attacks on humans are very rare, however, the reticulated python has been responsible for several fatalities in recent years. Number 1: The largest snake in the world, coming in at a staggering 500lbs, with some specimens having been reported to surpass 30ft in length, is the mighty green anaconda. Unless you plan on taking a trip to South America and trekking thru the Amazon jungle, you will only be able to see the mighty green anaconda in a zoo or in private collections. They maintain their world’s largest snake title by feeding on pigs, turtles, deer, and even other species of snakes. They have a life expectancy of 10-12 years, which when compared to other snakes on this list, is relatively short. Time for the question of the day: Many people keep some of these gigantic carnivores as pets. Would you ever have a Python, Boa, or one of these other monsters as a pet? Which one? Why? Or, why not?
