They aren't necessarily the most popular sets, although the most popular sets do feature extensively within the top 10 ranks. They are not the largest sets, nor are they even the most expensive or exclusive... Although they happen to include some of the best selling LEGO sets in the world. Being a list based on units sold or given away, there are some odd entries on the official top 10. For example, a blue LEGO base plate. Quite funny that it would feature in any top 10, but it goes to show how many of these are sold every year. Plastic Man, also known as Patrick O'Brien, is set to appear in LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham. He's a bonus mini-figure for players pre-ordering the game from GameStop. In at 9 and down from 5th position is another DC Comics Lego Batman set number 76023, the Tumbler. It features in Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight". It's a highly detailed model with six large black tires and some sort of a suspension system made up of TECHNIC pieces. In 8th position for 2014 is set number 21110, created by real-life geoscientists, it's the RESEARCH INSTITUTE. It includes a paleontologist, astronomer, chemist mini-figures and a large dinosaur skeleton... awesome! Ranked in 7th position is the 2014 Lego ADVENT CALENDAR. This is set number 75056 and retails for around 40 bucks or £35 if you're British. For 274 pieces, the annual advent calendars represent decent value for money and it's a real treat for kids to get a Lego minifigure every day in December in the run up to Christmas. Which is why in 6th position is another Lego ADVENT CALENDAR, for the year 2011. Why is this ADVENT CALENDAR still topping the charts in the last days of 2014 I hear you ask? Well, no one knows for sure, but once might suspect that set 7958 as it's otherwise known has this exclusive Santa Yoda with sack and gifts as the Christmas Eve treat. BLOODY AWESOME it is! In at number 5 is a small 13-piece minifigure that has been ranked inside the top 20 since it's release way back in 2013. Superman has proven itself to be one of the most loved minifigures that Lego created. And... you can still pick it up for next to nothing. Ranked number 4 for 2014 is Minecraft Microworld: the END. Set number 21107 and contains 440 pieces. The set depicts The End, a dimension in Minecraft, and features all the recognizable things about the end. In at 3 is a blue baseplate... No, really, I'm not joking. Just the blue baseplate... errm.. 1 piece. See? It'll still cost you 5 bucks!! In 2nd place for 2014 is ... Yep, MINECRAFT themed again, THE CAVE. It's for ages 8 and over and probably makes it to this spot because... well... it's Minecraft, isn't it? Well it's not... but you know what I mean. And in pole position... the winner of the highest ranking Lego set based on units sold or given away for 2014 is... Rocket Raccoon. It's set number 5002145 and the only reason why it's here at all is because it's a Toys R Us exclusive, given away by them completely free of charge.
