  1. Do u mean Every gta, not just GTA IV!! if u leave the city before you unlock it in EVERY gta you get the maximum star u can
  2. Sunset Overdrive had a funny boundary.
  3. What about GTA V where if you fly/sail out to the boundaries, your vehicle just falls apart and leaves you in shark-infested waters? If you're in a boat, the motor will just die on you and sink, and if you're in a plane, a wing will mysteriously fall off on it's own and all motor turbines/the engine will fail and you will begin spiraling towards the ocean water towards your death (and if you try using your parachute it will immediately fail). Then a shark comes and eats you. :P

Funny enough, if you're high enough and your plane breaks, and you haven't used your parachute yet (so you can still control your fall) you can sort-of glide back into the game boundary. You're still fucked as far as getting back to land though.
  4. Ahh, motocross madness...my brother told me that there was a really strong invisible bear there. For that reason I was so scared of it.
  5. Where is MINECREIIAFT
  6. at least it's better than the stupid invisible walls god i hate invisible walls so much
  7. That motorcross thingy was so fun!! I discovered that on accident and tried many was to fling myself further each time, it was fucking amazing XD
  8. It takes 69 hours to walk across the Map of Daggerfall...
  9. And I think ideally there would be massive randomly generated areas beyond the main game area, and these would eventually screen-wrap you around so that walking continuously in one direction away from the play area would bring you back to where all the story is taking place. All you'd really have to do is make sure the mountains and such at one edge of the map align with the geometry on the opposite edge, then teleport the player around once they step into that boundary.
And for those who don't know, it's actually a feature inherent in computer data that you can "overflow" or "underflow" a value like a coordinate and then end up on the other end of the data range. For example, on the NES, there was only one byte the CPU and RAM could handle at a time, so if you were at X coordinate 0 and subtracted one from that value then you'd get 255 -- and if you were at 255 and added one you'd get 1_0000_0000 in binary, which would get cut off and stored as 0000_0000 or 0. That's why in speed-runs of games like Zelda and Megaman they can sometimes walk off one side of the screen and end up on the other side even though there's no programmed function for doing that.
  10. The Motocross Madness launch wall is one of my fondest memories from 90s gaming. My dad and I used to spend hours in that game just trying to get over the edge walls to watch the character get flung for miles and skip like a stone.
  11. slaughterfish...
  12. Most of those are bad ways to create boundaries, insta kills is not exactly the answer, its doing it wrong. Open world rewards the players for exploring, so no wonder they venture into the map limits, killing them is not in synchrony with the philosophy of exploration and freedom those open worlds offer.
  13. Better than invisible walls
  14. are you watchmojo?
  15. in mad max, there will be a massive sandstorm if u venture to the big nothing
  16. Bad co 2 story, mortar strike kills you if you stray off map.
  17. but serious Sam 3 wasn't open world?
  18. Fuish
  19. No Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction? Seriously? You stepped outside the border, you was literally bombed the shit out of.
  20. ATV off-road fury for the ps2 would launch you like a cannon but also sound like horrible thunder so it would startle you off your ass
