Walk away from the auto industry and enter the motorcycle industry if you want to talk about HP per displacement. They've been cranking out over 200 hp out of 1.0 liter for some time now, without the aid of fancy direct injection, variable valve timing, or forced induction.
why did this happen again? i already commented on another video(i think it was visios or something) that with a 4cyl TURBO engine it's hp/l means NOTHING. wanna see a k20 make 700hp? not very hard with FI, the f20c is of the few VERY high hp/l NA engines from factory, making 120hp/l
178 hp/l is nothing compared to what BMW was able to do with their M10 1.5L F1 Engine.
They boosted a turbo charged 1.5 liter inline 4 to 1500hp. Thats 1000hp per Liter. It was a road car engine block, but I guess this doesn't count for this list^^

although it is more of a prototype car made for technological demonstration, the dodge m4s turbo interceptor had a 2.2L 4 cylinder bi-turbo engine that developped 440hp, that's 200hp/L, not bad for a car made in 1984

GM is an awful company. Not because they make the worst cars, but because they make the most uninspired, 'same old monthly sex' type cars and are completely arrogant about it. They also ruined SAAB which is a damn shame.
