3. I think transformers fail for the same reason all other electrical and mechanical thingsfail. They wear out and nothing lasts forever.

14. Transformers eventually fail because they are man made. All man made equipment fails sooner or later. Regular maintenance, not over loading, and keeping animals off of them will prolong their life. But you can't stop lightning. I don't care what arrestors you put on it.
15. if the transformer differential and other protection schemes are engineered..wired and functional tested correctly these catastrophic failures would rarely occur...problem is letting outside contractors engineer and install equipment..relays for life baby
