1. Back in the early 1980's, I lived in a small city in Northern Iowa in the United States, which was about 11 miles south of the Minnesota boarder.  It's called Estherville, Iowa.  For years, there was a tree stump in one corner of the property that our house was on, which was cut to within a few inches of the ground and which was also situated on one end of a long row of 10 foot high Lilac bushes.  I was out there one day and a bug came out of the ground, at the foot of the stump.  I remember it as looking like a giant locust, and it was at least six inches long.  I clearly remember that it was at least this long.  I moved backward very quickly, as it disappeared into the stump or near the ground around it.  I never figured out what it was, and I never went back to that area either.
