Anyone who ever watched this show likely went to bed on more than one occasion scared because of the stories they had just heard. Nonetheless, people kept tuning in to hear the creepy music, Stack’s ominous voice and the often-times terrifying mysteries which had gone unsolved. What made people keep watching a show which could be as terrifying as it was entertaining? In short, a lot of people love the rush of being scared as much as they like a good mystery. Life is full of unsolved mysteries. From the mundane to the extraordinary, we spend a lot of time reading about and trying to understand events which have often been labelled as ‘unsolved mysteries.’ The disappearance of a passenger liner, the reported sightings of a giant hairy creature in the Pacific north-west, strange lights in the night sky, the Bermuda triangle and unexplained disappearances – these are all well-known mysteries most of us have heard of. In many cases, we write off the mystery as a hoax or fabrication which has gained fame over time and become more of an urban legend than reality. In some cases, however, there is enough evidence to suggest the people or events actually existed but major questions concerning them seem destined to remain unresolved. When it comes to unsolved mysteries, what grabs our attention even more is when an element of terror or scariness is added. If unanswered questions get our minds racing then adding a terrifying element to the story puts our imaginations into overdrive. Ghosts, aliens, secret government experiments, murderers and mythological creatures are proven fan-favorites on their own. Combine those with an unsolved mystery and you get stories that are enough to raise the hair on your arms and make you question each bump and creak you hear in your house.
