M2 Browning .50 caliber machine gun or heavy machine gun designed at the end of World War I by John Browning . It was nicknamed Ma Deuce by US troops or simply called "fifty-lime" in reference to its caliber. The design has several specific denominations; the official name for the model of infantry Browning machine gun is lime. .50, M2, flexible. It is an effective weapon against infantry, vehicles and boats without armor or slightly armored, fortifications and light aircraft flying low. .50 Browning machine gun has been extensively used by the United States as armament for vehicles, aircraft and boats from the 20s to today. It was heavily used during World War II , the Korean War , the Vietnam War , the Falklands War and during operations in Iraq in 1990 ( Gulf War ) and 2003 ( 2003 Invasion of Iraq ). It is the main heavy machine gun in the member countries of NATO and has been used by several other countries. Still in service and its design is very similar to the machine gun Browning Model 1919 .
