Venus Fly Trap - It's Feeding Time!

In this video, I talk a bit about my collection of Venus Fly Traps that was started in 1996. These plants are carnivorous and eat a variety of insects in order to maintain their full vigor. I will feed some insects to the plants and then I will set some traps off so that you can see how fast they close. These plants are very unusual and are only found, in the wild, in a couple of southern (USA) States.

Comments

  1. dont tease them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. You should put it in an ant pile to feed it it gets rid of ants and it's the perfect amount of food if all the traps get sent off
  3. no animals were harmed in the making of this video
  4. I read that, in order to start the digestive process, the insect has to move after it is caught, in your opinion what I have said is true?
  5. That's one impressive clump of flytraps! Well done!
  6. I have read that the insects must be alive for digestion, yet yours seem to be dead. Does it matter then if they are dead or alive? It will make my little guys care so much easier if the insects can be prekilled. Thanks! And great video!
