Vertical Blue 2016 - William Trubridge sets a new World Record

On April 30, 2016 at 11:20 AM William Trubridge set his 16th World Record. His record setting dive was in the freediving discipline of Free-Immersion (FIM) at #VB2016, an elite freediving competition he hosts annually. William's dive depth was 122 meters and his dive time was four minutes and :24 seconds. 5. Today on the 21/7/2016 William Trubridge has set him self a brand new record of 102m deep. Well done and a big congratulations to William Trubridge.
6. Will and his support team really need to sort out the tag issue so that this never happens again. What ended up as a happy ending could have been a disaster, and we are all thankful that Will returned safe. There needs to be protocols about this. The tag serves the diver, not the diver the tag - you don't want to be stuffing around trying to get Velcro to attach at 122 metres under the sea. Surely a clip and / or backwards pocket that doesn't cause drag would be better? Or even touching off a sensor that indicates that he made it, or a camera showing him touch on the sensor, with the depth reading of the camera shown on the screen and streamed live. I understand a tag is something tangible brought up to the surface, but this is a real issue that needs to be sorted out.

8. Maybe they need to rethink the whole tagging something to your leg at the most dangerous point in the dive - there must be a simpler way to prove depth? Anyway, congratulations William!
9. Every time he dives; in the back of my mind, I can't help but wonder how many brain cells he loses each time. Cells that will never regenerate. His training, skill, and life's work, are so amazing to average joes like me. He is sacrificing a bit of himself each time he performs such feats. Bravo to William, awesome performance, may he continue pursuing his dreams; and I wish him all the best.
