1. I always thought they shot at the loop of the lock so it just came undone...
2. reason why some of these calibers didn't work is because you shot afar. (sounds stupid, I know. but hear me out.) Every user, from swat to bad guys in the movie get up-close with the locks, and shoot at an angle down at the top of the lock where the thing clips into. From afar, yea these bullets ain't goin to do a muthafuck thing but up-close is how you're supposed to shot a lock for quick entry. Safe to say in my theory. the 9mm very well could've entered if you would've approached the lock with that method.

    The scene from Skyfall where Bond shoots the lock out with his PPK and bashes through the door right before the train hits him has always puzzled me. Now I know in real life, Bond would've been crunched.
