Why Do People Invert Subwoofers? EXO Car Audio Q & A : Inverted Subs Myths & Facts

I get lots of questions about inverted subs on my videos, let's go through some commonly misunderstood aspects of inverting, and see if we can clear up some everyday car audio myths :) Follow Me Here! :) http://instagram.com/EXOcontralto http://youtube.com/EXOabigdeal Why Do People Invert Their Subs? 1: Space Limitations 2: To Gain Box Volume 3: Because It Looks COOL! What's The Advantage To Inverting Your Subs? 1: Huge advantages for people with unique, or cramped install surroundings. 2: Cooling Do Inverted Subs Cool As Well? 1: YES. They cool even better because the generated heat has a much larger area to fill inside your cabin, instead of a much smaller area being inside your enclosure. Does Inverting Increase Your Output? 1: No - You won't notice much change unless your box was not build to the accurate specs from the start. If I Invert My Subs, Do I Need To Reverse My Signal Polarity? 1: No - unless you have multiple subs, one of which is mounted differently than the others. 1. that description gained an instant like
  2. great info. quick question. I have a box with two rockford fosgate t2 12 in subs. not the new but the last model before current. the subs are kinda massive they weigh in at about 50+ lbs and big basket and motor... I am considering inverting and curious about your thoughts. my box is a Lil on the small side. setup is in a caprice so I am looking for answers before I flip em around but it should get deeper just due to more space in box...
  3. A few reasons NOT to invert your subs.

You are not as likely to get them stolen.

So you don't hear the ringing of the subs basket at those not so sweat spots/notes where the music and the sub resonate. Some subs are worse then others. This is usually most noticeable during fast attack notes like kick drums when there can be a short ringing sound trailing the note. (And you thought that was just part of the song?)

Not having to answer the same stupid questions over and over again. ie: Dude why you speakers inside out?

Not having to take anyone to the ER for third degree burns when they touch the motor structure after you have been impressing the neighborhood two counties over for the last hour and a half. (Can you hear me still? Can you hear me still?)

Not as likely to be killed in a collision when that 100+ pound 18" monstrosity rips free from it's MDF mount and hits you in the back of the head at 70MPH. Not that it will matter much because the sheet metal body of your vehicle will be so fatigued by the constant flexing that it will shred like a beer can.

Stand by for Public Service Announcement...........

(Seriously. Any time you mount speakers inside the cab of the vehicle they should be cabled to the body of the car. Usually to an eye bolt inside the box to the frame/body of the car. This is especially the case when you have them mounted at head height just a few feet behind your head. You wouldn't need to be traveling 70 MPH either. A mere 15 to 20 MPH rear ender could be enough to kill you or your passenger. If you are installing professionally for clients you will become liable for any harm that should happen to them as a result of your install. Never take that for granted. As for fatigued sheet metal there isn't much you can do except dyno-mat the shit out of it or turn the volume down.)

A couple advantages to mounting your subs with their ass's out in the breeze could be that you are less likely to "let the smoke out" if you can smell them starting to burn before it's to late. Flames shooting out of the voice coils is always cool as long as you don't catch your girl friends hair on fire. If your heater stops working during winter you can use your speakers to keep warm. ;)
  4. hey bro, thanks for the vids, got a question, I got 2 banhammer 15s, I built my box with room for a third but because of the port I don't have room to clear the motor. sooo would you think its ok to have 1 inverter and 2 regular in the shared space box with polarity reversed on the one? the box is already built with over 9 cubes so I think that's ok. thanks man
  5. can i invert 2 kickers cvr 15 ? or is better in a sealed box like i have it right now i have a small car those things fill the trunk like 87% of it.
  6. good tips said right!
  7. I have 1 psi platform 3 18" hooked up to a sundown scv3000d in a 4.8 cubic foot box with a 8" aero port tuned to 34 htz with a mechman alternator with a dedicated 2/0 power and ground going right to a northstar agm 400 battery. that thing wails. I was thinking of inverting the sub cuz I had the basket powder coated white. I wish I could share pictures of it with you. I wanted to thank you for all your inspiration in my journey to a legit spl system in my car. your positivity in the car audio industry is second to none. don't know if you'll even read this or not but thought you should know. thank you EXO.
    Tenacious Dan...
  8. night mot lol I heard that but hey I be diggin ur videos.
  9. I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata hybrid and I wanted to know how I could get some huge bass while keeping everything in the trunk woofer size , brand , amp and everything. I had a jl 12w7 with a tma 1000 watt amp it hit pretty hard by I want way more. any thoughts?
  10. When inverting sub can it be ported, if the box is smaller.
  11. awesome, thanks for sharing this. it answered my question
  12. Hey bud question... I have 4, 12" subwoofers... in 2 different boxes which are slotted... when I play them it's like they are inverted on the polarity, but they are not... I change one amp so it's out a phase so then it doesn't produce a canceling sounds... however this so top subs will pull in bottom will pull out... But why? I thought having them in opposing polarity would create that cancellation. But the way it's setup I have one of the amps out of phase... i know it's not the wiring and you can see that when they are hitting... same exact boxes, subs, amps, everything.
  13. Hey exo can u write me plz thanks man
  14. can you explain this to me please? i have three subs all in their own sealed chamber. they are dual 6 ohms wired for a 1 ohm load on a one channel mono amp. how do i wire the subs to the amp if i invert the middle sub?.
  15. you are the man EXO! thanks great vid and very much helpful!
  16. I don't understand why did you reverse the signal polarity on the other sub, if he is mounted conventionally and the others are inverted, aren't they competing against each other like that? I'm not sure but that's my logic...
  17. helped me out alot thanks
  18. false inverted woofers are louder, but if your amp and deck arent tuned for reverse, you will never hear the difference
  19. EXO you look like Cam Groves.
  20. MCJuggerNaut lookin ass nigga
