World's Largest RC Plane - Byron B-29

Current Pic as of February 2011: yes, the plane still exists. if you want info, please inquire, as it is about a mile from me. http://iowaaviationheritagemuseum.webs.com/photos/f84thunderstreak/Remote-Control-Aircraft/2009_11210545.JPG I used to go to Byron's expo when I was a kid up in Ida Grove. Then the city of Ankeny, Iowa bought the expo from Byron. I live in Ankeny, and I can say the city administration ruined the expo. Plain and simple. Bad management, sucked the money out of it, lack of knowledge in aviation or radio control, yet alone couldn't comprehend that it was truly a global event and only rivaled in attendance by the the Iowa State Fair. All in all, it would still be the largest and most well known radio control meet on the planet if it weren't for educated idiots that run a city... BTW. Byron is what got me interested in aviation to begin with, so it is embedded into my very being. ~b101aa2 Anyways, this is Byron's B-29 I have did aluminum patch work on it many times and I miss the plane. And I miss the expo. the aicraft carrier last I looked was still building rust. sad. thanks much and don't forget to subscribe http://www.cozmiktoys.com

  2. reminds me of iranian fighter jet pics :)
  3. Aaaah "Kee Bird" . . . ;(
  4. aw betamax. your quality was surpassed only by your size.
  5. I think so...I mean its really big tho.
  6. Can you take an animal or small child for a ride?
  7. really should see this tape before heading on a journey bit.ly/14cYe1a?=lcbyl
  8. anyone else thought of sitting on it while it flies?
  9. mother of god... awesome!
  10. My dad used to test fuel for byron originals and he ended up with two of the controllers which you can see in the very few first seconds of the film
  11. This is not the Worlds Largest RC Plane.
  12. Byron owned Shorelander & Shorestation boat trailers, lifts and dock and was quite successful. When he passed, the family ran fast and far from the liability of the whole large scale R/C thing. I saw the 29 go into the tree, and it would not have been pretty if it had gone into the crowd. There will never be a show like that again. They smashed up 10s of thousands of dollars in planes as part of the ww2 re-enactment each day of the show. He spent a small fortune every year on the show.
  13. One to start four engines, one to run gear, flaps and I think, cowls and one to fly it.
  14. It lost the radio and ended up in the tree. Sickening, that plane was way over $100,000.00. Dead on scale. Down to the custom tires.
  15. Yes indeed, 18 channels on a transmitter today is probably enough for any machine.
  16. Was the damage very extensive to this beautiful & amazing B-29 when it crashed into the trees. And, did it lose an engine before the crash? I assume it's 3 engine capability with gears down is not very good, am I correct? If so, that seems somewhat odd to have a 4 engine bird with no climb on 3 engines. But, I could be wrong, that's just the configuration the B-29 appeared to be in before it hit the trees.

  18. lovely. how fast does it fly?
  19. At this size... what's the point of making it RC? No fun in my opinion.
  20. Very large models have to have two pilots anyway, just for safety, reasons in case of radio failure, ( or heart failure! :¬D ). But I'm not certain why this has three.
