The largest carnivorous bird was Brontornis, an extinct flightless bird from South America. The tallest bird ever however was the giant moa. The second largest bird ever capable of flight was Argentavis magnificens and The largest bird capable of flight was Pelagornis sandersi, which had a wingspan of up to 24 feet. 9. Nobody believes us! My Husband and I seen a Bird bigger than I have ever seen soaring right above us here in AZ. I cant even describe how big. A jet flew past in the area and I could dam near say the bird was higher than the jet and we could still see the wings were very visible.

12. Well ide say the possibility is absolutely there for some one-off bird that grows to enormous size. Think of it in the same manner as giant humans that live today. More often its a freak medical conditions like gigantism, but sometimes its simply cases of someone simply growing far larger than the average person. The same happens with other animals, dogs, cats, bears, etc why not birds or for that matter insects. we certainly see super large rats every blue moon or even fish. so its certainly not impossible. but the breeding of such animals in the wild would be close to near impossible due to their size and apparent threat to even their own species. Such a deviation from the norm would make it near impossible for them to breed.

Presumably some of these eyewitnesses are credible in that they did see one or more actual birds of rare and impressive size, yet in every case the bird(s) being described or observed on film clearly fit the description of known birds of prey such as condors, vultures, and eagles - the latter specifically in the case of the pilot. Larger than average individuals can occur in pretty much any species given the right circumstances, especially when resources are abundant.
