Download my Video Upload Checklist at: http://www.drostdesigns.com/video-optimization-checklist Here are some Major YouTube Mistakes to Avoid & How To Fix Them Mindset Mistakes If you aren’t clear about why you’re setting up a YouTube Channel you’ll soon lose interest and won’t want to spend time creating videos. Pursue a niche you’re passionate about so you’ll have the drive and will power to keep going even on days when you lack motivation. Channel Mistakes Many beginner youtubers forget about optimizing their channel for visitors. When people first visit your channel you want them to immediately know what your channel is all about (just like when first visiting a web page) Video Mistakes Most people these days just use their smart phone to record video however you need to it correctly to get high quality. For instance make sure you take up the whole frame in the shot. If you’re showing your face make sure your eyes appear in the top third of your frame. Lighting Mistakes Poor lighting will give the impression you don’t know what you’re doing. When I began my YouTube channel I often just recorded videos outside during daylight hours. Later I just used a bed sheet as a background that was illuminated with a few cheap lights. Thumbnail Mistakes Don’t use the auto-generated thumbnails provided by YouTube as they won’t make your video stand out from all the videos listed on YouTube. Instead create a unique custom thumbnail using a free graphics editor like canva. Audio Mistakes When I created my first videos I just used the built-in camera mic. This was a big mistake because I often got background noise (particularly when I shot videos outside) or the audio sounded echoey or metallic Editing Mistakes Don’t waste the precious time of your viewers by not editing out the ums, ahs, ramblings or any mistakes made during the recording process. Use a video editor such as Screenflow for the Mac or Camtasia for the PC to quickly and easily edit or spice up your videos. Marketing Mistakes Don’t expect your video to receive tons of views after uploading it to YouTube without promoting it. Make sure you share it on your social media sites, website, forums, groups to extend the reach of your audience. Avoid trading sub for sub on unrelated channels. Most people that do this are only interested in getting new subscribers but are not interested in your channel content. 1. As always, Herman, solid info for determined creators. I can only think of one rule I'm breaking, the first and most important. I did lose interest for a while, but I have so many interests it's hard for me to focus on just one. I think of my channel as a "variety" channel, now. Every day, even though I'm retired, is something interesting and something new. I can't help wanting to do a video on every little thing. It's most surprising to me which of my videos tend to take off. Everything else I've got nailed-down. Now it's just Mindset I need to do something about. Thanks for your excellent contributions!
  2. hi there! I commented before about monetization. remember me!? anywho, I've learned a lot while riding out my 30 day suspension for invalid click activity. I thought I would share something with you that is very helpful. Im taking this time to still stay productive by learning and planning and doing some videos to keep private for now but will be able to get back on track quickly at the end of the 30 days. the main thing I wanted to share was this... I couldn't figure out that invalid click activity! and I knew that I didn't click on anything. AdSense also does not tell you what the problem is which I also find kind of unfair to make one search Forever to figure it out. I also feel like ad-Sense is not naive and can actually see what the problem is, as to they can control like buttons and such. Anyway, bottom line... a lot of the problem with that invalid click activity, is just that you're not clicking at all! you see, I would get these ads with singing monsters and really cool skateboarders, and I wanted to listen to that funky singing or watch those cool jumps from the skiers and skateboarders. Therefore, in reality, the invalid activity for clicking was "not clicking" this produced false impressions for the ads. I didn't do it intentionally to jeopardize anything or trick the advertisers, but I now know after spending much time to narrow it down, through my own process of elimination, that was the problem. One would think that adsense would tell people rules and regulations in more of layman's terms as to most people are very new when they sign up. but that is wishful thinking. So, that's it! I've learned much more about this but I won't go on and on. I wanted u to know this as to I really like your informational videos. They have helped me and I am returning the favor! I feel this little bit of information will help many.
  3. oh my goodness these are great!! Definitely saving this one when I need these reminders!
  4. that was very helpful thank you sir
  5. U need more subs
  6. Again, this is great info. Thanks a lot. I think the one rule I'm breaking is I'm spending more time trying to get traffic, and should be spending more time planning my next video. It is such a strange balance. I've committed to one video a week. I have done four in two weeks.

Hopefully I find the time tomorrow to make my next one!

Thanks again for all the tips.
  7. thanks for the tips!

  12. wow, what a great list of reminders to get the best from your videos! i think editing the closed captions is useful too, as it helps Google to know what the video is about..
  13. These are good tips Herman, thanks much.
  14. I started my investment/entrepreneurial channel solely because I love sharing my passion with as many people as possible. I don't give a crap about how many views I get. I only have 7 subscribers right now, but 7 subs means that I have 7 people who take time out of their day to listen to me. That is an amazing feeling. I am grateful for every single subscriber I have! Thank you everyone!
